Aristotle does not explain why they should be so replaced, but, as pointed out by Alexander, the reason seems to be that nonsubstance essence terms like 'illness' cannot be truly ax-predicated of substance
Given the above account of aN- and ax-predication, these two counterexamples can be re- jected in the same way Aristotle rejects the counterexample to Celarent NXN.
